Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams officially certified the results of the 2016 general election yesterday, after the deadline to request a recount passed.

The final results were posted on the website earlier this week. Hillary Clinton won 48.16 percent of the vote and Donald Trump won 43.25 percent. That’s 1,338,870 for Clinton and 1,202,484 for Trump.

“This represents the hard work of 64 county clerks, their staffs and thousands of election judges,” Williams said in a statement. “More Coloradans voted than ever in our history, and for that we can be proud.”

Gov. John Hickenlooper also has to sign off on some election documents, including the results of the presidential election, the nine certificates of the presidential electors and a certificate declaring Michael Bennet the winner of the U.S. Senate race.

The Secretary of State’s office mailed letters to the state’s electors yesterday. They need to report to the governor’s office Dec. 19 to cast their votes Hillary Clinton, as they are required by law to do.

But this Monday, a federal judge will hear the case of two electors who have sued to contest the constitutionality of that law. They’re hoping they can convince enough Republican electors to vote for a Republican other than Trump.

Williams has called the suit “odious” and basically anti-democratic.
