Good news if you’re looking for a new option for Italian food in Denver.

Beast + Bottle owners chef Paul C. Reilly and Aileen V. Reilly opened their new restaurant, Coperta, last night in Uptown.

“Coperta is the Italian word for blanket and my sister Aileen and I grew up in New York eating rustic Italian food, which is comforting, like a blanket,” chef Reilly said in a press release. “At Coperta, we hope to offer a warm and welcoming dining experience, much as if we’d wrapped a blanket over the shoulder of our guests.”

Like many Italian menus, Coperta’s breaks down into antipasti, mozzarella, primi, secondi and contorni. It also features spuzzulia, which is Campanian slang for “eating a lot of little things.” Highlights include classics like rigatoni carbonara and eggplant parmesan, as well as more unique fare, like the paccheri with monkfish ragu, a variation on coastal braised seafood pastas.

The wine list is, of course, all Italian. Coperta will also have three cocktails on draft: Fernet, Aperol Spritz and Negroni.

For dessert, there’s a selection of gelati, or you can get more adventurous with a southern Italian-style doughnut made with potatoes, among other things.

Coperta is at 400 E. 20th Ave. Dinner hours are 5-9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Lunch and take-out service will begin in a few weeks.
