Denver police make arrest in fatal Colorado Boulevard hit-and-run

Police suspect that drugs or alcohol were involved in a four-car crash that left one person dead on Colorado Boulevard.

Police suspect that drugs or alcohol were involved in a four-car crash that left one person dead on Colorado Boulevard.

A 25-year-old man from Tennessee, Tyler White, is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and leaving the scene, police said.

The collision happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Monday night in the southbound lanes of Colorado Boulevard near Interstate 70. The suspect fled the scene on foot, according to police Lt. Robert Rock, and was arrested nearly three hours later in City Park.

White was identified in part by a facial injury, according to Rock. Attentive firefighters heard reports of an unidentified man in the park and alerted police, Rock said.

Rock said that the cars at the scene of the crash were arrayed as if they were “pool balls” that had collided off of each other. He suspects excessive speed was a factor.

“You can’t look at that amount of damage and the distances involved and not understand that,” Rock said. “Speed contributes to damage. It contributes to injury.”

The person killed was an adult woman, according to Rock. Her identity hasn’t yet been released by police.
