When an emergency license suspension effectively shut down Cold Crush for a week, people wanted to know why Cold Crush and not any other bar. So, we took a look at the available crime data to try to find out. Cold Crush didn’t have an unusual number of violent crimes compared to other bars, but it nonetheless seemed to attract more police attention.

We recently received a call from a resident of the Ballpark neighborhood. She wanted to respond to comments previously published in Denverite about homelessness following an assault reported in her area.

“I am a retired librarian and a Denver native whose family has lived here for nearly a hundred years. The specter of homelessness is always with me, even though I have worked most of my life. My retirement funds were swallowed up by medical bills for illness and an injury. I was terminated from my last position for a workplace injury that has left me in chronic pain. I now live entirely on Social Security.”


Denver DA: No ballot selfies allowed

Mailing a ballot feels great, especially this year. However, you really should not post a photo of your grinning face next to your completed ballot, as Denver’s district attorney informed us.

Crime Stoppers offers $2,000 for information on Deonta McDonald’s death

McDonald, also known as “D” or “Slim,” was gunned down on Oct. 12 on the 1300 block of South Birch Street. He was 19. Now, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for information that helps in the prosecution of the crime.
