Former Denver mayor Wellington Webb is in the hospital

Wellington Webb is expected to be released to his home later this week.

Denver Health said Tuesday that former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb had been admitted to undergo a medical procedure related to diverticulitis.

Hospital officials said in a press release that the procedure will require a hospital stay of a few days, but Webb is expected to be released to his home later this week.

“His wife, Wilma J. Webb, would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support and respectfully requests privacy at this time,” hospital officials said.

Webb was the first African-American mayor of Denver and served from 1991 to 2003.
