A man killed by police in Douglas County last week was threatening bystanders

Authorities say a man who critically wounded a Colorado sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed by another officer after the suspect turned his gun toward people at a hospital complex.

PARKER, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a man who critically wounded a Colorado sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed by another officer after the suspect turned his gun toward people at a hospital complex.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Det. Dan Brite was shot in the chest soon after arriving at a home to check on a man reported by his wife to be suicidal on Sept. 2. Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said Friday that the suspect fled in an RV through a field, firing at police, before turning his gun toward people walking near a medical building.

Doctors say Brite has made dramatic progress in the last week but remains in critical condition. He has opened his eyes and responded to stimulus but they say it’s too soon to tell if he will suffer brain damage due to blood loss.
