UPS announced Tuesday it’s delivering a new 360,000-square-foot distribution facility in Aurora.

The facility near Denver International Airport is expected make UPS a top employer in Aurora with the creation of more than 700 new jobs. Some operations at the facility in the East Park 70 industrial park are planned to start ahead of the 2017 holiday shipping season, according to United Parcel Service Inc.

“The Aurora facility is part of the strategic investments UPS is making to better service our customers and enhance its efficiency and processing capability,” said Kenneth Cherry, president of the UPS Desert Mountain District, in a statement.

UPS’ $90 million “strategic investment” comes on the heels of Amazon spending millions on its distribution and sortation centers in Aurora. The centers boost the Seattle-based e-commerce giants delivery and service capabilities in the metro area including the options for Sunday and same-day deliveries. Amazon.com Inc. is reportedly testing its own delivery service in some West Coast states.

“I’m proud of the partnerships that make these projects a reality, create jobs for our residents, and drive economic vitality in Aurora,” said Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan in a statement. “Aurora is happy to welcome UPS to the city.”

The UPS facility enables the Atlanta-headquartered delivery company to boost speed and accuracy in the Denver metro area. The tech in the facility will also help UPS with its rollout of Saturday deliveries.

“The Metro Denver area, including Aurora, has been an early market for the new service because of increasing retail fulfillment demands and residential delivery growth,” UPS said in a release.
