Francois Beauchemin won’t be back with the Colorado Avalanche for the 2017-18 season. On Thursday, the team announced that it bought out the remaining year on the veteran defenseman’s contract.

Beauchemin, 37, signed with Colorado in July 2015. In two seasons, he recorded 13 goals and 39 assists. The Avalanche were outscored by 21 goals when he was on the ice.

Beauchemin played the second most minutes for an Avalanche team that went 22-56-4 in 2016-17. Colorado finished with 48 points, the fewest in the NHL by a comfortable margin.

Beauchemin, a Quebec native, has played 13 seasons in the NHL.
