Colorodans Pugh and Horan make U.S. Olympic soccer team

Mallory Pugh and Lindsey Horan both made the U.S. women’s Olympic team’s 18-person roster.

A pair of Coloradans will be a part of the the U.S. women’s Olympic soccer team that kicks off Aug. 3 in Rio De Janeiro.

Striker Mallory Pugh, of Highlands Ranch, and midfielder Lindsey Horan, from Golden, were both named to the U.S. women’s official 18-person roster Tuesday.

Pugh, a Mountain Vista High School alumna who turned 18 in April, is the second-youngest member of the U.S. women’s Olympics team in history. She is slated to play for UCLA this fall.

The 22-year-old Horan plays for Portland Thorns FC in the NWSL. She has scored four goals in 10 games with the club this season.

Pugh and Horan represent two of the four players on the Olympic team who were not members of the 2015 U.S. Women’s World Cup squad, which defeated Japan 5-2 in the final.

Many of the key members of that World Cup team, including Hope Solo, Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath and Alex Morgan, will try to help the U.S. win gold at the Games.
