The Denver-based investment Janus Capital Group Inc. announced plans Monday to merge with its competitor London-based Henderson Group PLC.

If the deal goes through the investment firms will create the new company Janus Henderson Global Investors PLC and control more than $320 billion in assets, according to a news release.

The new company is expected to be headquartered in London and keep offices in 29 locations around the world including Denver.

Janus is headquartered in Cherry Creek and employs 1,279 workers, according to its website. The company invests money in stocks of large, dominant companies for individuals and institutions.

Merging with the Henderson Group would allow Janus to tap into the European market and better face competition in the investing industry.

The merger is expected to close during the spring of 2017. Janus Henderson Global Investors PLC would employ about 2,300 workers, the release states.
