The city of Denver and RTD got $1.3 million from the Federal Transit Authority to improve bus transit along Colfax Avenue.
Back in January, the city was still working to secure funding. This means that the city moves a bit closer its stated goal of bus rapid transit, a strategy that usually involves a bus getting its own lane so it doesn’t have to compete with other traffic.
Denver officials have acknowledged that dedicated bus lanes from Broadway to Syracuse could cut car capacity along Colfax Avenue by 35 percent. But “enhanced transit” along the city’s most popular bus corridor could save 10 minutes of travel time from end to end.
