Investigators look for clues about ignition of Green Mountain fires

Two fires on Green Mountain, west of Lakewood, burned on Sunday night and continued into Monday morning but posed no current threat to homes or other buildings, according to emergency responders.

Update: Firefighters left Green Mountain around 9 a.m. after containing and mopping up the fire. Anyone with information on possible causes of the fire can call the West Metro Fire Rescue tip line at 303-987-7111.

The fire, burning near the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, was estimated at about one acre at 7 a.m. Monday. “No structures threatened,” West Metro Fire Rescue reported.

The fire had been estimated at two acres much earlier in the morning, although fire sizes are difficult to estimate. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
