Gary Kubiak will take the rest of the week off and will not coach the Denver Broncos against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, general manager John Elway said Monday.
Kubiak was taken to hospital shortly after the Broncos’ game Sunday. Doctors said he was dealing with a “complex migraine condition,” which led to “extreme fatigue and body weakness.”
Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis will be the interim coach in Kubiak’s absence, Elway said.
Kubiak usually calls the Broncos’ offensive plays. On Thursday, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison will handle those duties.
Kubiak was discharged from the hospital Monday afternoon. Elway said the plan is for Kubiak to return to work next Monday, Oct. 17.
Kubiak previously experienced a health issue during a game in 2013. He collapsed during halftime when he was head coach of the Houston Texans. Doctors diagnosed him with a transient ischemic attack, which is a mini-stroke.
