Hacienda will move into the old Katie Mullen’s space on the 16th Street Mall

Hacienda Colorado is opening its first downtown Denver restaurant.

Hacienda Colorado — a restaurant you probably associate with the suburbs — is opening its first downtown Denver restaurant on the 16th Street Mall.

The local Mexican chain is moving into the large space at 16th and Court that formerly housed Katie Mullen’s, The Know reports.

“We know where we’d like to be, where there are holes in the city for our restaurant to fill. We’ve been looking at locations close to downtown for a long time. That one (the former Katie Mullen’s) just came up, we looked at it, and it turned out to be a fit,” Gene Van Horne, director of special projects for Hacienda Colorado, told The Know.

Katie Mullen’s has been closed for more than a year now, and they’ll start tearing down what’s left of it at the 11,000-square-foot space on Aug. 1.

There’s no word yet on an opening date for Hacienda.
