Nuggets guard Jamal Murray will have surgery Thursday morning

Connelly did not say what the surgery will repair. But earlier this month, Altitude’s Chris Dempsey reported that Murray played this season with a sports hernia.

Denver Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly revealed on Altitude 950 radio Wednesday that guard Jamal Murray will have surgery Thursday morning.

Connelly did not say what the surgery will repair. Earlier this month, Altitude’s Chris Dempsey reported that Murray played this season with a sports hernia.

A sports hernia is “an injury of the inguinal area caused by repetitive twisting and turning at high speed,” according to WebMD. The inguinal area is located in the abdomen. One of the primary symptoms associated with the injury is groin pain.

Murray played all 82 games this season. He averaged 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 points in 21.5 minutes per game.

“He played through some injuries that most guys in the NBA wouldn’t have played with,” Connelly said of the rookie Murray, who by the end of the year had established himself as the team’s backup point guard.

That detail was one of several interesting tidbits to come out of a wide-ranging interview Connelly did with Altitude radio hosts Nate Kreckman and Ryan Harris. You can check out the full interview here.
