La Loma is no longer the cozy little Mexican joint it once was, but don’t worry, it still has all the same food.
Guests got to taste for themselves at the grand opening of the restaurant’s new downtown location at 1801 Broadway last night. The rustic-modern space next to The Navarre Building is a long way from the house on the hill in Jefferson Park, and it seats fewer people, but the recipes are all still the same.
The owners — the Brinkerhoff family — have owned La Loma since 1981, but current owner Mark Brinkerhoff has ambitions bigger than one restaurant. He wanted to expand and create something closer to fine dining. In Jefferson Park, the family owned an entire block of a land, so they sold it and found a new home next in the former Trinity Grille.
“We are proud to unveil our new location in the heart of downtown and welcome everyone into our new home,” Brinkerhoff said in a statement. “We know that, although the location has changed, our loyal fans will find the same great food rooted in traditional recipes that they have come to know and love.”
And since you asked (yeah, I can hear you from here), they do still have a fun little machine that makes tortillas in house.
