Matt Duchene got absolutely rocked in the Avalanche’s first loss of the season

The Colorado Avalanche took their first L of the season against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. This also happened:

The defender’s name is actually Dmitry Orlov, but it’s true that his first-period hip check made Colorado forward Matt Duchene look like a rag doll. To Duchene’s credit, he popped right back up and kept on skating.

The Capitals went on to beat Colorado 3-0, which dropped the Avalanche to 2-1 on the season. Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie both scored power-play goals for the Capitals.

Duchene was asked about the hit after the game, and while he did seem a little mad about it, he didn’t offer much. Here’s what he told Mike Chambers of the Denver Post:

Brutal hit. Colorado next plays at Tampa Bay on Thursday.
