Police kill armed suspect in Westminster

Officers say he brandished a weapon after he ran to a car in an attempt to get away.

WESTMINSTER — Police in suburban Denver shot and killed a suspect who officers say showed a weapon during a confrontation.

Cheri Spottke, an investigator with the Westminster Police Department, says officers spotted a suspect who had several warrants for his arrest Friday night. Officers say he brandished a weapon after he ran to a car in an attempt to get away.

The officers, who were not injured, have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The suspect’s name and age have not been released, and investigators have not said what his arrest warrants were for. They also have not said what kind of weapon he brandished.
