The Rockies are installing a gargantuan new scoreboard this offseason

Fans who attend the April 6 home opener against the Atlanta Braves will get the first look at the scoreboard that’s expected to be 258 percent larger than the current one.

The Colorado Rockies are installing a shiny new scoreboard to celebrate their 25th anniversary season. On Opening Day next year, the team will unveil an 8,639-square-foot scoreboard in left field.

Fans who attend the April 6 home opener against the Atlanta Braves will get the first look at the scoreboard that’s expected to be 258 percent larger than the current one.

The Rockies are partnering with Daktronics, a company that specializes in large-format LED video displays, to put in a scoreboard whose display size will be roughly equivalent to 784 60-inch TVs.

“We are always looking for ways to ensure the fan experience at Coors Field continues to be one of the best in all of sports,” said Rockies executive vice president Greg Feasel in a news release.

The new scoreboard will resemble’s Colorado’s team logo. The top of it will have the “mountain cutout,” the team said.

2018 will mark the Rockies’ 26th season as a franchise, though the club is referring to it as the “25th anniversary season” because yay round numbers.
