The new King Soopers in northeast Denver officially opened Wednesday morning near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Havana Street.

The grocery store at 2953 Havana St. opened at 6 a.m. Wednesday, said King Soopers spokeswoman Kelli McGannon. The company started hiring for the store last month.

There are about a dozen other King Soopers spread out across Denver city limits, according to the company’s website. King Soopers parent company, The Kroger Co., purchased the 3.6-acre site where the new store opened for $1.2 million in 2015. Plans for the 183,216-square-foot store and a nearby gas station were approved in March 2016.
