We’re having a party — maybe you’ve heard?
It’s tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Galvanize Platte, 1644 Platte St., which has a lovely view of Denver from the patio. We’ll have beer from Ratio Beerworks, food from Hearth & Dram and Snarf’s, and a gif photo booth from our own Kevin Beaty.
Tickets are $7, and you can get ’em now or at the door.
Elsewhere — specifically the Fillmore Auditorium, 1510 N. Clarkson St. — Violent Femmes and Echo & the Bunnyman will be indulging your ’80s rock nostalgia. And in a good way, not the corny-cover-band-playing-Journey way.
Tickets are $45-70 and the show starts at 8 p.m.
Mixed Taste is back again at the Seawell Ballroom, 1350 Arapahoe St. Per usual, two speakers will take 20 minutes each on seemingly unrelated subjects, and when they’re done, an audience Q&A will help connect the topics.
This week’s topics are giant flutes and celestial navigation, with Akio Lis and Jim Cook.
It starts at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $20.
And it’s Nerd Nite at the Oriental Theater, 4335 W. 44th Ave.
Tonight’s topics are: “The Politics of Star Wars” by Hanna Aucoin, a Graduate Research Assistant at the Colorado School of Mines; “The Good, The Bad, and the Woo Woo!” by Lincoln Carr, a theoretical physicist and professor at the Colorado School of Mines; and “Awesome Ants” by William Schumann, a biologist who studies the neural behavior of ants at University of Colorado Denver.
The talks start at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $6.
