If you can cut out of work a little early today, you can take a free behind-the-scenes tour at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 1485 Delgany St., led by curatorial associate Zoe Larkins, who curated Jenny Morgan’s “SKINDEEP” and Derrick Velasquez’s “Obstructed View.”

The tour starts at 4 p.m. and is free with museum admission, which is $8 for adults, $5 for college students, seniors and military, and free for members and anyone 18 and younger.

Ale House at Amato’s, 2501 16th St., is throwing a summer kickoff party on its rooftop from 4-9 p.m.

They’ll be roasting a whole pig and pouring summery Sierra Nevada brews, and there will be live music from 6-9 p.m. Unlimited pig-roast plates are $15 and full Sierra Nevada pints are $5. Registration is free.

The Esquire Theatre’s classic film series will present “1984” followed by a discussion with Dr. Jim Aubrey, professor of Cinema Studies at MSU Denver.

It starts at 7 p.m. at the Esquire, 590 Downing St. Tickets are $8.50 at the door and popcorn is free if you have a student ID.

Let the Beat Speak — a throwback funk, soul and jazz band — will perform the music of James Brown tonight at Nocturne, 1330 27th St.

They’ll be playing from 7-10:30 p.m. Because it’s Nocturne, it’s a sit-down affair, so a reservation wouldn’t be a bad idea. A $5 artist fee will be added to your check.
