Two detained in East Colfax shooting death of Justin Slyter

Two people have been detained in the investigation of the killing of Justin Slyter. Slyter, 39, was shot to death early on Sunday on East Colfax Avenue.

Slyter was shot near the 7-Eleven at 551 E. Colfax Ave. at about 12:17 a.m. on July 9. Police released photos of two individuals who “fled the scene …. in a white four door vehicle.” The images appeared to come from a store security camera.

The two people in the pictures have seen been taken into custody, the Denver Police Department announced early on Monday afternoon. The site of the shooting was a couple blocks east of the Colorado State Capitol and close to the Fillmore Auditorium.

One person was identified as David Houston, 25. The other was not identified because they are a juvenile. The white vehicle also was recovered.

Police have described the two people as “suspects,” but have not announced whether any charges have been filed.
