Broncos linebacker Von Miller says he stands “100 percent” with teammate Brandon Marshall, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and other players around the league who kneel during the national anthem as a way to raise awareness about racial inequality in America.

Miller was asked about the issue Thursday. Here’s what he said, according to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold.

“I’m 100 percent with Colin Kaepernick and the cause. But for me personally I’ve got huge respect for the flag and everything, soldiers, but I’m with those guys 100 percent. It really creates a discussion that needs to be had.”

Miller told reporters that the recent events in Tulsa, Oklahoma — where Terrence Crutcher, an unarmed black man, was fatally shot by police — and in Charlotte, North Carolina — where Keith Lamont Scott, a black man who police say was armed, was also fatally shot by police — show the need for protest and conversation.

“You see what we’re dealing with this week, that’s what Colin is doing it for, that’s what Brandon (Marshall) is doing it for, and that should continue to happen so we can continue to have these discussions to make this great country even better. It’s already a great country, but there’s still issues that we have to face and fix and I feel like over time we can get that done. But I am with Colin Kaepernick, Brandon Marshall, all those guys, 100 percent.”
