A wrong-way driver caused a fatal crash on I-70 Monday night

Authorities say a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 70 near Tower Road hit a pickup truck head on, killing himself and two others.

AURORA — Authorities say a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 70 near Tower Road hit a pickup truck head on, killing himself and two others.

The Colorado State Patrol says 86-year-old Gerald Arnett of Wheat Ridge was driving a Dodge Caravan westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway Monday evening when he hit the truck driven by 24-year-old Kyle Parker of Strasburg. Arnett and his passenger, 96-year-old Betty Arnett, along with the passenger in the truck, 24-year-old Katie Paul of Strasburg, were killed in the crash in Aurora.

Parker was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash shut down the highway for several hours.
