While your fellow residents suffer hour-plus drives, treacherous roads and thousand-dollar passes to hit the slopes, you, Denverite reader, can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars, and ski right here, in the city, for free.

Head to Ruby Hill Park, in Southwest Denver, above South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue intersection. There, since 2007, Denver Parks and Recreation has been offering free skiing.

Now, the rail yard and Urban Terrain Park have reopened for the 2024 season with help from Winter Park Resort and a crew of more than 25 volunteers.

This year, enjoy new boxes, rails and features for people of all skill levels.

Starting Friday, Feb. 2, Denver Parks and Recreation will even offer free rental gear -- including snowboards, boots and helmets -- on Thursdays and Fridays, from 4 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The park will also host some free events, including the Burton Mystery Series on Feb. 10, the Snowskate Slamfest on Feb. 17, and the CoreNation Tour Rail Jam on Feb. 24.
